# Example

> Generate implementation examples from how open-source projects use libraries and APIs.

Use the `get_example` MCP tool or the `example` CLI command:

```bash theme={null}
npx githits@latest example "broadcast messages using python-socketio with Redis pub/sub"
```

The result includes generated code, source repository citations, and a `solution_id`.

From 0.27.1, the CLI and MCP request source-reading follow-ups alongside citations. When the service returns them, your agent can use the CLI `read` commands or MCP `read` calls to inspect the source behind an example.

<Note>
  Examples are not version-pinned. Check their APIs against your dependency version with [Code](/tools/code-navigation).
</Note>

## Parameters

| MCP parameter | CLI flag | Description |
| - | - | - |
| `query` | Positional argument | Required description of the pattern or API usage |
| `language` | `--lang` | Optional language; inferred from the query when omitted |
| `license_mode` | `--license` | `strict` (default), `yolo` (unfiltered), or `custom` (your configured blocklist) |

If the language is unrecognized, use a suggestion from the error or omit it.

For an explicit agent prompt, see [Find a real implementation pattern](/guides/trigger-githits#find-a-real-implementation-pattern).
