# Quick-start guidance for MCP clients

> Load GitHits tool routing and usage instructions with quick_start.

`quick_start` takes no arguments and returns the GitHits usage guide. It covers tool selection, target syntax, output formats, citations, and handling untrusted content. It does not query indexed content or change external state.

## When agents call it

Call it once per session unless the guide is already loaded. The current `githits-mcp` skill includes the stable guide. Other tools remain callable without `quick_start`.

## Availability

`quick_start` is included in the default `@githits/mcp` inventory and local stdio server. Hosted availability depends on the deployed server version.

The stable guide includes [`resolve_target`](/tools/target-resolution) and [`code_diff`](/tools/code-navigation#code-diff). Enabling local [experimental tools](/tools/experimental-tools) adds `research` instructions.

There is no CLI counterpart. Use `npx githits@latest --help` or the [CLI reference](/cli/commands).
